Nosh is a calorie tracking app designed to make healthy habits feel effortless. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. We built Nosh around minimal friction, and we apply that same principle to privacy: we collect what we need to make the app work, nothing more.

1. Information We Collect

We collect three categories of information:

Account information

When you sign in with Apple, we receive your email address and, if you choose to share it, your name. Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your real one. We store this to create and identify your account.

Food log data

Everything you type into the food logging input, including descriptions, calorie entries, and any AI-generated estimates. We also store the date, time, and nutritional estimates (calories, protein, carbs, fat) for each entry. This data is associated with your account and stored in our database.

Usage preferences

Your daily calorie goal, timezone, and streak counts. Your timezone is used to determine the correct date for each food entry and to reset your daily totals at midnight in your local time.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Display your daily calorie totals and remaining calories

• Store and retrieve your food log entries

• Track your logging streak

• Send your food descriptions to our AI provider to generate calorie estimates

• Reset your daily progress at the correct local midnight

We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your information to any third party.

3. AI-Powered Calorie Estimation

When you use the AI food logging feature, the text you enter is sent to Anthropic (the maker of Claude) via a secure server-side function. Anthropic processes your input to return a calorie estimate and nutritional breakdown. Your food descriptions may be used by Anthropic in accordance with their usage policies.

We recommend reviewing Anthropic's privacy policy at anthropic.com if you have questions about how they handle data. We do not send any personally identifying information alongside your food descriptions.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in Supabase, a cloud database provider. Data is protected with row-level security, meaning your entries are only accessible to your own account. All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS).

We take reasonable steps to protect your information, but no system is completely secure. If you become aware of a security concern, please contact us.

5. Data Retention

We retain your account and food log data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your data within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal reasons.

You can request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us at the address below.

6. Third-Party Services

Nosh uses the following third-party services:

• Apple Sign In: for authentication

• Supabase: for database and server infrastructure

• Anthropic: for AI-powered calorie estimation

Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data. We encourage you to review them if you have questions about their practices.

7. Children's Privacy

Nosh is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete it. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. We will respond within a reasonable time frame.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or via the email associated with your account. The effective date at the top of this document will always reflect the most recent version.
